Canada sold Candu nuclear reactor to SNC-Lavalin (Corruption Group)???

In October 2011, the Government sold the assets of AECL’s former CANDU Reactor Division to Candu Energy Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of SNC-Lavalin Group Inc.

Reports of murky affairs have prompted calls for Canada to tighten bribery law.

SNC-Lavalin met with scorn from consultants over compulsory 'ethics exam'

The Globe and Mail posted an article disabling the comments function states "A committee of SNC's board that conducted the internal probe concluded the $56-million in suspect payments were related to agents SNC hired to win contracts on two unnamed projects. SNC declined to say where the projects were located but some of the payments are believed to have gone through the Tunisia office

Harper Government May Have Ties to the Mafia
This is not the first time that the Harper governemnt has been accused of having Mafia ties.

Bloc Leader Gilles Duceppe told the House of Commons on Tuesday that a Tory fundraiser in Montreal in January 2009 was held at a restaurant owned by a man with links to a Mafia clan. "The owner of the restaurant where the cocktail party took place, Mr. Riccardo Padulo, is close to the Vito Rizzuto family, an influential member of the Mafia," Duceppe said. Earlier this year, Padulo attended a funeral service for Nick Rizzuto.

Construction boss Paul Sauve threw the fundraiser at Da Enrico restaurant months after his company got an $8.9-million contract to renovate Parliament's West Block. Natural Resources Minister Christian Paradis was the guest of honour at the event. He was public works minister at the time. Executives from several companies that got huge government contracts donated to the Conservatives to attend the fundraiser. Opposition parties have demanded Paradis' resignation, raising the prospect that the Tories took kickbacks in return for handing out government contracts.

Insiders within the company, who asked for anonymity for fear of repercussions to their jobs, fear there could be a potential political chill on any investigation given the ties of some members of the board — including chairman Gwyn Morgan, a former Tory fundraiser, and Conservative Senator Hugh Segal.

Former SNC-Lavalin CEO faces new corruption charges

OTTAWA (Reuters) - The former chief executive of SNC-Lavalin Group Inc, a Canadian construction and engineering company caught in a far-reaching misconduct scandal, faces six new fraud-related charges, police said on Wednesday after issuing a warrant for his arrest.

Also named in Wednesday's arrest warrant was Arthur Porter, the former head of the McGill University Health Centre, which runs a network of health facilities. The Globe and Mail newspaper reported Porter was the chief negotiator on the C$1.3 billion ($1.3 billion) contract awarded to SNC in 2010.

Porter's alleged involvement in corruption has ruffled feathers in political circles because Prime Minister Stephen Harper had appointed Porter in 2008 to a committee which oversees the government's spy agency, where he served until 2011.

SNC stock fell more than 20 per cent after it announced an investigation into $35 million in mysterious payments made by the company that had been attributed to unrelated projects.

The company also said that its profits for 2011 would come in roughly 18 per cent lower than earlier forecasted due to the undocumented payments as well as a charge related to its operations in Libya and unfavourable cost changes on certain projects in its infrastructure and environment and chemicals and petroleum businesses.

It would appear that Justin is putting the Liberals back on track.  The norm is not to vote new governments in but bad governments out!!    And Mr. Slick is getting a bit too muddy!!
