New Developments Walmart, Target, Tims, Sobeys and Basics

Target is trying to sell to Walmart, so that they can develop on Stockies site. Tims are going to build across from Arden Park or kiddy corner to it, not sure which land they will buy. Has anyone else heard about these?
Walmart will tear down some or part of old zellers, and build there. Also basics will take over old sobeys when council approves mto site for new sobeys.
Interesting thats all I can say.

Interesting speculation.  Yes, the land just east of CTC would seem a great spot for Timmies.

If Target is trying to sell to Walmart, it seems a quantum leap to suggest Walmart has plans to tear down part of the Zellers store---and what, build bigger.  Were will they come up with the required parking????

Basics move to Sobeys, sure a bigger store, might make sense.  I do believe the MTO site has the green light from the City, unless there are still some outstanding arguments to go the the OMB.

Target didn't buy Zellers (that is, it didn't buy the company's shares which were held by HBC, it bought only the leasehold rights).

Zellers doesn't own its store location in Stratford, it is merely a tenant of RioCan.

Therefore, Target cannot sell the real estate to Walmart which in turn cannot tear down anything.

What is that I smell?????

East end Tim Hortons moving across the street

The busy Tim Hortons on Ontario St. in the east end of the city will be moving across the street and into the Festival Marketplace parking lot where KFC and Taco Bell are currently located.

The coffee and restaurant franchise won't, however, be moving into the KFC building, said Robbin Hewitt, Tim Hortons franchisee.

The KFC Taco Bell lease on the mall property wasn't renewed. It's rumoured KFC and Taco Bell will close Oct. 29.

Calls to KFC's corporate communications department were not returned. It's not known if KFC and Taco Bell are leaving the community or moving to another location in Stratford. The Pizza Hut franchise across the street is owned by the same company. There's speculation the fast food franchises could end up on that property.

Tim Hortons was looking for a place to relocate because the Ontario St. franchise will be bumped out of its location by Walmart developers who plan to build on that lot and the adjacent lot.

Hewitt couldn't say exactly when the Tim Hortons will move.

"The community will not notice a closure. You will not be without your Tim's coffee, I promise you that," Hewitt said.

Tim Hortons will also have a second location inside the mall near the food court. It will be open by the Christmas rush.

"Hopefully the mall shoppers enjoy it," Hewitt said.

Considering the quality of Taco Hell I am not surprised if they close up entirely. KFC...struggles everywhere these days....seeing it gone will not be a surprise either.

A Tims kiosk inside the Mall might breath some life into the somewhat dead food court.

Whatever objects and OMB proceedings with regard to the "no-frills" sight must have all been dropped as they are pouring foundations for what I would assume is the secondary retail pad.

Maybe if they offered a good value bucket meal in the summer like they use too. They have become way to expensive just for chicken.
