City Looking at New Design for Old Fairgrounds

City Looking at New Design for Old Fairgrounds

The City of Stratford is looking for input into a new design for the old fairgrounds.

They've begun a process to design a new park for part of the old Stratford Fairgrounds property, located adjacent to the Rotary Complex and now containing baseball diamonds.

A public open house will be held this evening from 6:30 to 8:00pm in the foyer of the Rotary Complex where the community is invited to share input on two concept plans that have been prepared.

Following the open house, concept details will be made available for viewing on the Community Services Department website at www.stratfordcommunity.ca, and a discussion will take place on the City's Facebook page at www.facebook.com/cityofstratford.

Questions and comments can be directed to commserv@city.stratford.on.ca.

Both concepts essentially have the exact same features, it's just the layout that is different, correct?  They look essentially like mirror images of each other (aside from a couple of minor variations on building placement).  I do like that soccer facilities are getting some attention in the city.

Only 1 car entry off McArthy Street?? That lot is already a bloody nightmare.  High speeding 4 x 4 moma's and grandparents practicing for the Indy 500 while racing for a hockey game, volleyball match or veggies. Now add how many more cars in that same lot and traffic flow!  YIKES, god help the users.  Needs at least 1 more entrance to make it work.

Plus, bring back the camp grounds off Britannia. Those were useful at least.  People loved it and you didn't have to spend $140 a night to visit Stratford!

my vision would be a large swampy field of weeds surounding old vintage ball diamonds and a muddy area where people could smash their old wrecked cars.... i see acres and acres of dilapitated cracked worn out ashphalt and old scarred  and tagged leaky buildings,,,we could have a fair there every fall and bring in carnies, bearded ladies and wild animals and retro carnival rides built in the 1950's,,,,,,,, this is my vision of what we should be doing there.......

Sale of Surplus Land Former Stratford Fairgrounds, tender opening was May 15th, 2013. And not one tender was submitted. Guess nobody wants to purchase city property and now that it's on the back burner while our tax money is the fuel on the fire, they need to plan ahead not bank on sales of assets.

How about spending all that money for something that only benefits a small portion of the people in this city. We really need another outdoor soccer field and an indoor one. There must be better ways to waste city money.

How about paying down the 90 or so million dollar debt the mayor calls managable?

How about quit wasting money on projects we don't need or fights we can't win.

Not surprised really. Zoning is undefined, uses undefined. Generally its still a total crap shoot for any developer. You could spend 20k doing a design and submitting a bid only to find someone object and stop the rezoning process...you are now a OMB fight and the City sits back and counts your cash.

Much as some of the more socialistic minded may object, I would do single family like the majority of the surrounding area...perhaps with a bit of a architural twist and leave it at that

And since this city is short on low income housing this would be of more use to people here than soccer fields.

Re: City Looking at New Design for Old Fairgrounds

Make up your mind Spankie....do you want the City to pay down their existing debt (sorry your existing debt), or spend more money on the welfare crowd, and spend big tax bucks building rent assisted housing for the guys and single mums who don't want to work or just cant find a job???

Won't find a job is what you should have said. Pretty much everything you read points to a labour shortage in Canada and the need to fill it. Want a job....there are plenty....unwilling to relocate, commute, re-train or look outside your field?....then you should not be asking for social assistance.
